Teays Valley Local School District provides services to students ages 3-22 identified as having a disability under the Indviduals with Disability Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA). Teays Valley has approximately 13% of the student population identified as having a disability. Disability conditions include: autism, cognitive disability, multiple disability, specific learning disability, other health impairment minor, other health impairment major, orthopedic disability, emotional disability, hearing impairment, vision impairment, traumatic brain injury and speech/language disability. Related services include occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech/language therapy.
Teays Valley promotes a full inclusion policy where most of the child's educational needs are met in the general educational classroom with support from an intervention specialist. Students may receive some instructional and related services outside the general education classroom depending on need.
Programs serving children with learning difficulties and speech/language needs are available in all buildings. Children with multiple disabilities, severe cognitive disabilities, or emotional/behavior needs are served in specialized programs in designated buildings. All eligible children receive specialized instruction to meet their unique needs, in accordance with state and federal requirements.
Teays Valley Local School District is committed to the location, identification, and provision of a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) for all children between the ages of 3 and 22 having disabilities. Location and referral of such children (Child Find) may be initiated by any individual with knowledge of the child and suspecting the child may have a disability. Please contact Beth Dill, Special Needs, at 740-983-5052, with any questions, concerns, or names for referral within the Teays Valley School District.
