Dear South Bloomfield Families,
As we enter the final weeks of the 2012-2013 school year, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for entrusting your children with us each and every day of the school year. It has been our pleasure to work with the students and families of South Bloomfield. As the school year winds down, I wanted to take a few moments to emphasize the importance of reading.
Research has proven that there is a significant loss in learning that occurs during summer months for students who do not read. This phenomenon has been called by a variety of names: “summer slide,” “summer setback,” “summer shortfall,” “summer reading loss.” Whatever the name, the research clearly shows that students who don’t read during the summer begin school the following fall at a significant disadvantage compared with students who read when school is not in session. With that said, please encourage your child to read over the summer months. The librarian and the teachers have prepared lists of age-appropriate literature for students to read this summer.
The school office will be open from May 24 - May 31, 8 am-12 pm. The school office will be closed from June 3 - July 31. The school office will re-open on Thursday, August 1, from 9 am-3 pm.
Have a wonderful end to the school year and enjoy the upcoming summer vacation!
Sincerely,
Craig Lautenschleger
Principal
