District Information
The Teays Valley Local School District is a premiere educational institution that values its traditions and long history of excellence. Commitment to academic excellence and development of the individual potential of ALL students is a key focus of ALL buildings.
The District is located in Pickaway County, Ohio, 25 miles south of the state capitol of Columbus. The District covers more than 175 square miles and each day its buses travel more than 1,200 miles to transport students from Pickaway, Fairfield and Franklin Counties to and from its buildings. It is located in a growing residential area and includes the communities of Ashville, Commercial Point, Orient, South Bloomfield, as well as the townships of Harrison, Madison, Scioto and Walnut.
Teays Valley Local Schools was first chartered more than 45 years ago, combining students from the Ashville-Harrison, Madison, Walnut Township and Scioto Township Schools. At that opening, there were 537 students in grades 9-12 and 1,650 total students in grades 1-12. The first graduating class for Teays Valley High School was in 1963. Since that time, the district continues to grow and is composed of Teays Valley High School (9-12), Teays Valley East Middle School (6-8), Teays Valley West Middle School (6-8), Ashville Elementary, Scioto Elementary, South Bloomfield Elementary and Walnut Elementary (K-5).
Each building is led by a full administrative team. Regular classroom teachers are supported by specialists in reading; speech, hearing and physical therapy, as well as proficiency tutors and educational aides; full library services; and multiple computers in each classroom. The district also provides an extensive array of services for students with special needs, including academically gifted students.
