Teays Valley Parent University
Grades K-12
TVHS Community Room, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Kids are facing many issues today! What did my child just say or do? Why are they acting that way? What were they thinking? Why do they use that cell phone so much?
These are all questions parents have asked themselves at one time or another.  Teays Valley is addressing these questions as we present Parent University.  Teays Valley Parent University has been developed to tackle issues your child faces every day.  Issues such as opioid use/abuse, depression, anxiety, bullying, peer pressure, academic problems, social problems and how to address these concerns with your child will be topics that will be addressed by Parent University.

Madi Sayre, a school counselor at Barrington Elementary school in Upper Arlington will conduct a practical discussion on the secret strengths of introverts. We will be talking about how to best support a "quiet kid" based on Susan Cain’s “Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverts.” In many ways education and our world in general is geared for extroverts, but we can encourage students to feel empowered about their temperament.
Raising Young Men of Integrity - March 6
This session is intended for TV parents and boys in grades 7-12

Presenters include:
Neal Davis, Dave Gray, D J Mendenhall, Josh Riffle & Mark Weber

More important than a boy’s ability to take a hit on the football field or be skilled in athletics or academics is the ability of a young man to be truthful, honest and reliable. Character and integrity are essential qualities of a good person. These, more than anything else, should mark the character of a great man. Becoming a man in an ever-changing landscape has always been challenging, but in the world today which is so full of distractions, how can we ensure boys are on the right track?
In this Parent U session, we’ll cover essential qualities of character, which include learning to take responsibility for your actions, being courageous and overcoming fear, dealing with failure, handling anger, learning to work hard and to give and keep your word. The panel will include teachers, coaches, community members and Teays Valley alumni giving their perspective on raising and becoming a man of integrity.

"What 10,678 Girls Think About Stress, Social Media, School and Their Futures" - April 3
You’ve probably said, “I just don’t understand girls anymore,” out loud or to yourself in the last few weeks. That’s why ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences) set out to answer that question and figure out what the biggest challenges girls face. They conducted the largest study on girls in the country to get a deeper understanding of these challenges, and published The Girls’ Index.

This information will be shared by ROX Manager of Community Programs and Partnerships, Lauren Morosky. She will present an analysis of The Girls’ Index and give parents strategies to help their daughters navigate today’s world. Teays Valley High School counselors Mary Langenfeld and Julie Samlow, trained ROX facilitators who run 2 ROX groups, will also talk about what ROX is like here at TVHS.
This event is for parents only. Please leave your children at home so that you can have a non-restrictive experience.
