Early Release
The Teays Valley Board of Education recognizes the need for students to be released from school prior to the end of the school day. Under the new revised state minimum standards relating to compulsory attendance laws, students are required to be in school a minimum of 5 ½ hours. Thus, students who qualify will be eligible to leave after 8 th period. To qualify for the early release program, a student must meet the following criteria:
  • Be 16 years of age.
  • Show evidence of a valid work permit.
  • Maintain passing grades.
  • Must be enrolled in five periods of class.
  • Maintain employment.

The early release program is cooperatively planned by the parents, student, employer and school personnel. Final approval rests with the high school principal pursuant to the rules and regulations adopted by the Teays Valley Board of Education. Listed below are reasonable rules and regulations that students must comply with to maintain early release:
  • The student requesting an early release must fill out the appropriate form, obtain the necessary signatures and have a conference with the principal prior to early release.
  • The student is under the jurisdiction of the school while a part of the early release program.
  • The student must leave the school grounds and not return to the building or school grounds the remainder of the day.
  • Credit will not be granted for the early release program.
  • The early release may be revoked by school officials for such reasons as poor attendance, misbehavior, loitering around school, reckless driving, etc.
